Isn’t it remarkable for how brief a time a man can be content?
Mark Twain
Okay…. I’m staring out my first entry on kinda shaky ground.
I’ve always heard that this quote is from the great 19th century American humorist and author, but I can’t find any reliable proof of this.
Well, proof be damned! I love this quote and I think it illustrates quite nicely the Buddhist idea that contentment in life is so difficult to find, and when you find it, it never seems to last.
According to Buddhist belief, this discontent is the direct result of our inability to boldy and unflinchingly accept life as it really is and to remember that everything that happens…the good and the bad…is impermanent. That “this too will pass”.
